Cold Therapy

DuraSoft Knee

Dura*Soft Knee Pack

From as long ago as I can remember, when I injured myself at home with a sprained ankle or twisted knee, the first thing that occurred was mum leapt to the fridge and grabbed some frozen peas.

As my sporting career progressed it was common to see bags of ice dripping over the edge of a seat on the sidelines of the basketball court, or footy ground (yes, I was somewhat injury prone!).

Cryotherapy (Greek origin Kryos – ice cold/frost) is the therapy or treatment using cold temperatures.  In a simplistic form, the use of an ice pack post a ligament or tendon injury is basic cryotherapy.  The cold temperature is used to reduce swelling and help decrease discomfort.

Common acute injury management advice relies on the R.I.C.E  (Rest / Ice / Compressoin / Elevation) or P.O.L.I.C.E. (Protection / Optimum Loading / Ice / Compression / Elevation) theories - both which describe the use of Ice to combat swelling and pain immediately after an acute injury.

However, instead of reaching for the ice pack for treatment – there is now an updated version available to simplify this small step in your recovery – Dura*Soft by Enovis (Donjoy).

DuraSoft Cold Therapy Dura*Soft Shoulder Pack

Combining a malleable inner cold pack, with a soft, Velcro closure outer lining, the Dura*Soft system by Enovis (Donjoy) provides a re-usable (which would’ve kept our peas safe at home!) cooling system that can be comfortably shaped to conform to the affected area.

Available in multiple shapes, the DuraSoft system can be used to treat shoulder, back, knee and foot/ankle injuries – or even used post-operatively over surgical dressings during recovery.
